In just one extraordinary year Sandie Shaw had gone from being Adam Faith’s teenage discovery to being acclaimed as “The Barefoot Contessa” of The Top Twenty with a string of major hit singles to her name. Her second LP (indeed, her second LP of 1965) saw her take significant strides in the studio, recording more demanding material and, for the first time, one of her own compositions – Till The Night Begins to Die. Twelve bonus tracks include two UK Top Ten hits: Message Understood and Tomorrow.

REVIEWS

"This new expanded reissue of Shaw’ eponymous 1965 debut LP for Pye captures the chanteuse at the dawn of her stardom. Comprising unremarkable pop cover - It’s in His Kiss and Downtown among them - and a clutch of fair-to-middling originals by Shaw’s then collaborator, Chris Andrews, it’a an uneven confection. But what makes this stylishly packaged reissue (which has excellent linernotes) really desirable is the addition of five non-album 45s and their flipsides, including Shaw’s immortal, definitive rendition of Bacharach & David’s (There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me."

"(...) The Andrews-produced, Woodman-arranged-and-conducted Me followed the same formula, once more showcasing Sandie’s versatility over a series of diverse reimaginings from Charles Blackwell’s melancholic pure pop of You Don’t Love Me No More to the beaty Do You Mind by Lionel Bart. Again, the Andrews compositions stand out most - particularly the attitudinal I Don’t Need That Kind of Lovin’ and Down Dismal Ways, which places Sandie in a torch song setting."
